The Pros and Cons of In the Ear Hearing Aids
In the ear hearing aids can accommodate a wide range of hearing losses, making them a good overall choice for many people. This style of hearing aid ranges in size from those aids that fit completely into the ear canal, to those that fill the entire ear. Based on their size, some in the ear hearing aids may be available with extra features that a user would prefer, such as volume controls, directional microphones, and telecoils.
There are also a few areas of concern of which a user of in the ear hearing aids must be aware. Because the microphone in this type of hearing aid is close to the receiver, there is still a chance for feedback to occur. Although these hearing aids can offer additional features, they have limited space on which to place them. This means that the battery door and volume control may be small and therefore more difficult to adjust or access. Finally, because these aids are placed directly in the ear canal, they are susceptible to damage from ear wax.
